Apperson appreciates the fragility of our planet and the
imperative to balance the needs of people, planet and business. Everyday we have our team
leaders looking for new ways to conduct business meanwhile safeguarding our environment.
Environmentally-Friendly Products
Apperson made a commitment to transition their most popular education OMR forms to 100%
post-consumer recycled paper and uses Harbor 100 paper that is purchased from Grays
Harbor paper mill in Washington. This particular mill generates its own power from an
energy-efficient turbine that uses wood waste to create steam that generates electricity
and is certified as using renewable energy for its operations.
Recycling Programs
In our production facilities, we have a paper bailer that collects the scraps of paper
from all print jobs that are produced in-house. All scraps of paper are compressed and
sent to a nearby recycling center. The average weekly amount of paper recycled from our
facility is 8,200 pounds, equivalent to more than 4 tons.
In addition, all offices have recycling centers set up so all employees have easy access
to recycling their aluminum cans, plastic bottles, paper, etc.
Facilities
Recently, Apperson focused on improving our facilities while at the same reducing the
amount of energy we use in a year's time. We relocated 4 out of our 5 facilities
nationwide into smaller, more space-efficient areas. There was a 25% reduction in our
monthly utilities costs, shaving off a large portion of the energy used annually.
Operations
For almost a decade, Apperson has used a software program called Liquid Office that
permitted all internal communication and documentation to be done electronically. By
utilizing this software, it significantly reduces the amount of paper being used for
interdepartmental communications.
